The Stony Brook Regional Sewerage Authority (SBRSA) was established in 1971. SBRSA operates three treatment plants and three regional pumping stations. The River Road Treatment plant, located in Princeton Township, NJ is currently rated for 13.06 MGD, The Pennington and Hopewell Treatment plants are located in Pennington Borough and Hopewell Borough respectively, and are each rated for 0.30 MGD. The three treatment plants, along with 49 employees provide sewage treatment service to six towns in Mercer and Middlesex Counties with a combined population totaling 80,000. In addition SBRSA operates two multi-hearth sludge incinerators and provides sludge disposal services for other municipalities.
